Data use cases + office hours 7/28

Hi Spark analysts,

Last week we made a ton of announcements, including a deadline extension and the introduction of a few new data sets. So TL;DR — below are some use cases for the new data, plus we're holding online office hours w/ IBM Spark mentors next Thursday, July 28.

  2. We’re adding new enterprise data resources to the site and we want to give you a chance to incorporate these into your projects, if you so choose.

Our awesome data co-sponsors Yelp and Uncharted Software have generously shared some of their enterprise data sets for you to use during the hackathon.

Yelp’s data includes 2.2M reviews by 552K users for 77K…

Making a great submission video

We know you’re focused on building your Spark app, but don't forget about your submission video. It's often the first (and sometimes only!) thing that judges and voters review.

A good video tells the story behind your submission, providing a clear and concise explanation of what your app is and does. Here are some tips and a list of screencasting tools:

  • Establish your elevator pitch. In the first few seconds of your video, explain why your app is awesome. You can get into the details of how it works later on in the video, but treat the opening seconds…

Three new public enterprise data resources

(Note: You will need to register for access to this data and confirm via checkbox that you will not use the data for financial or commercial means. Devpost has confirmed with the data owners that this data may be used for this hackathon. Please contact the data owners about any other use.)
  • World Bank Enterprise Surveys - World Bank Enterprise Surveys…
